One day in India I was on a beach which stretched
miles in both directions. I had already walked a long time along the
water when I found myself face to face with a cow which was also strolling
along but in the other direction. We looked at each other a moment
and then the cow made a swerve to avoid me, continuing on its way
and I on mine. It was only in retracing my steps a few hours later
that I saw that our two traces had made two parallel lines, except
at the place of the encounter. I was very pleased by that swerving
space made by the cow. In my profession what interests me are the
breaks in daily life. I want to record the rips in the cloth of our
reality, when life no longer resembles life and time no longer belongs
to time, when everything is elsewhere.
