“The sea has a country which is Greece.”
This phrase comes to the visitor’s mind in all its truth. The
blue of the sea and the blue of the sky are infinitely reflected in
the colors of the windows, the doors, the boats, the café tables
and even in the Greek national flag, blue and white. No other country
has brought the color of the sea right into their towns and homes
like the Greeks have done, the blue becoming the symbol of the union
between a country and the sea. But in the treacherous Aegean Sea,
Poseidon-Neptune can suddenly rise in anger. Poverty and necessity
forced the Greeks to the sea and in celebrating the color blue, these
people with terrestrial souls give to the sea a prudent and cautious
homage.
